Adopt A Pet

Save the life of a shelter pet!

Adoption Process

Thank you for considering pet adoption from a shelter! It is our goal to match homeless shelter pets with loving, forever homes.

Animal Services has hundreds of adoptable pets at any given time. We operate on a first come, first serve basis to give everyone an equal opportunity.

We strive to place every pet in a furever home, which is why the first step of adoption from our shelter is coming to our location and interacting with the pet of your choice. Adoption applications can be filled out at our shelter once interaction has taken place and are not available online.

Once you have interacted with the pet of your choice, you can fill out an adoption application at our front desk area. Once your application is approved, we will ask for payment of the adoption fee. After your pet has met the mandatory hold requirements and is processed through our clinic, he or she will be ready to go home!

We ask interested adopters to please come prepared with photo identification.

We welcome adopters from out of county and state, but do not transport animals. Interaction is still required as part of the adoption process. For those unable to make the commute, we recommend contacting our rescue partners to see if they may be able to assist. Here is a full list of our rescue partners.

Orange County Animal Services provides prospective dog adopters the opportunity to bring in their resident dog to meet their possible new dog. To begin, we ask that you first meet the dog you wish to adopt.

The introduction between the shelter dog and your current dog will require the assistance of Animal Services staff. For shortest wait times we recommend arriving between 2 - 5 p.m. Due to the required staff assistance please be advised that meet and greets and interactions are limited to 15 minutes so we can best serve all visitors. On adopt-a-thon event days when shelter traffic is at its highest we will be unable to conduct meet and greets.

If you plan to complete an adoption application immediately following the meet and greet then we recommend bringing along a family member or friend to handle your dog while you complete the necessary paperwork.
