The Community Corrections Division is comprised of six community-based programs that provide supervision to both pre-sentenced and sentenced offenders in Orange County. Within Community Corrections, the focus is always on public safety and providing cost-effective alternatives to incarceration for offenders under court supervision. Community Corrections works with other programs including the Work Release Center, as well as agencies within the criminal justice system, to ensure effective client supervision. The Community Corrections Division supervises over 8,500 offenders in the community.
When a judge orders you to Pretrial Release you will be responsible for following the court’s instructions. A Pretrial Release Officer will work with you to help you understand your responsibilities and obligations. You will communicate with your officer in person and by telephone. Your Pretrial Release Officer will provide supervision until your case(s) is resolved by the court, or your case(s) has been accepted into the Pretrial Diversion Program with a signed contact, or your case(s) is dismissed by the court.
If this is the first time you have committed a crime, the State Attorney’s Office may offer you the opportunity to participate in Pretrial Diversion. A Pretrial Diversion Officer will help you understand the responsibilities and obligations of this program. You will be required to participate in programs and perform community service. When you successfully complete Pretrial Diversion your criminal charges will be dropped and you will not have a criminal record.
When a judge orders you to participate in Probation or Alternative Community Service, your first stop will be at Central Intake located on the 2nd floor of the Corrections Administration Building. On your first visit a staff member will meet with you to gather information about you and explain your responsibilities and obligations for successfully completing your court ordered program.
When a judge orders you to Probation you will be assigned a Probation Officer who will help you successfully complete all court ordered conditions, such as: treatment programs, community service, and financial obligations. While you are on probation you will be required to participate in random drug and alcohol testing.
When you are required to complete community service work, you will be assigned to a designated work-site based on where you live, your work/school schedule, and your physical ability. A Community Service Officer will track the hours you work and report your completion to the court or other supervising officer (example: your Probation or Pretrial Diversion Officer).
The Work Release Center provides dormitory style housing for up to 308 inmates working in the community. These inmates serve their sentences as tax-paying citizens earning an income to support their families, pay victim restitution and other court-ordered fees.
