Carrie Hoeppner Proudfit selected as the new Public Relations and Outreach Specialist (P.I.O)

Orange County, FL – Orange County Corrections Chief Cornita A. Riley announced today that Carrie Hoeppner Proudfit has been selected for the position of Public Relations & Outreach Specialist. Proudfit will be responsible for all internal and external communication efforts on behalf of the Corrections Department, which runs the 3rd largest jail in Florida and the 19th largest jail operations in the nation.

“Carrie is a veteran media relations professional with deep roots in Central Florida,” said Chief Riley. “She has been at the forefront of major Central Florida news stories. Her established relationships with the media and prior experience in law enforcement made her an ideal selection.”

Prior to joining the Orange County Corrections Department, Proudfit served as the Regional Director of Communications for the Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF), overseeing multiple counties and multiple media markets surrounding Central Florida. In 2010, Proudfit delivered 48-hours of live updates on the emergency evacuation efforts of thousands of Haitian-Americans.

In 2006, Proudfit served the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office as their Public Information Officer working with the media team showcasing the Sheriff’s Office, coordinating breaking news at crime scenes, crashes, Corrections, and also offering support to the Joint Information Centers (JIC) within the Emergency Management Office.

Proudfit holds a bachelor’s degree in communications from Salisbury University in Maryland and a master’s degree in mass media from the University of Central Florida. In 2012, she was named DCF’s Media Advocate for Children, received DCF’s Visionary Award and was the top 2 percent performer.

Her last day with DCF is set for April 3. Her start day with Corrections will be Monday, April 14.
