Mayor Teresa Jacobs Engages Students with Family & Friends United

Community & Services

Orange County, FL – Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs hosted students of Family & Friends United, Inc. and its founder, Sharon Warner, at the Orange County Government Administration Center this week.

Students – ranging from middle school to college graduates – shared stories with Mayor Jacobs about their backgrounds, goals and what they hope to accomplish in the future. Students learned about the importance of being connected to their community and the value of becoming involved in their local government.

Family & Friends United is a program that Orange County resident Sharon Warner started locally more than 20 years ago. Sharon has a strong belief in the importance of families and friends coming together for a common cause. The program gives children the opportunity to learn how to better deal with challenging situations they may encounter at school and outside the home.

“I wanted to offer young people a chance to enjoy life and teach them how to deal with issues and problems,” Sharon said. “I feel that what I am able to do for children, their families and the community is my life’s work.”

Family & Friends also offers a free after school program for children in the community at Orlo Vista Park. The group meets Monday through Thursday, with occasional special activities on Fridays and Saturdays.

A variety of photos from the meeting are available for use by the media on Flickr.
