Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs joined Karen Garcia, Vice President & General Manager for McDonald’s Corporation-Florida Region and Gregg Oerther, Owner/Operator and CEO of Oerther Foods, Inc., to break ground on the new, state-of-the-art “World’s Largest Entertainment McDonald’s” on Sand Lake Road. The new restaurant will replace the existing iconic McDonald’s that has been serving guests from all over the world since opening in 1976.

“We’re so proud that the World’s Largest Entertainment McDonald’s is located on our famed International Drive – the perfect place to welcome guests from around the world, who will be dazzled by innovative technology, amazing games and entertainment, and of course, wonderful food,” said Mayor Jacobs. “In addition, McDonald’s provides good jobs and positive economic impact for our community.  We’re thrilled to have this one of a kind McDonalds in Central Florida, and look forward to the grand opening!”

“Thanks to Gary Oerther’s vision, and the entire Oerther family’s love of McDonald’s and their community, Orlando will have another iconic destination,” said Garcia. “Gary yearns to bring smiles to the millions of people who visit his restaurants – especially here on International Drive. He’s always striving to keep the Golden Arches shining in Central Florida and I can’t wait to see how this new restaurant brings his vision to life.”

The new, state of the art building was designed jointly by McDonald’s Corporation and Florida-based architectural and engineering firm CPH, Inc. It will bring nearly 100 construction jobs to the area under the direction of the Venture Construction Company.

The new “World’s Largest Entertainment McDonald’s” is slated to open in early 2016 and will feature:

  • Nearly 19,000 square feet of unique dining and entertainment experiences
  • Create your own taste with exclusive chef prepared items in addition to McDonald’s regular menu
  • Open kitchen design centered around wood-burning pizza oven
  • Energy efficient design & technologies that reduce consumption throughout the restaurant
  • Nostalgic details from the first iconic location including fan-favorite Mac Tonight

“For nearly 40 years now this historic McDonalds has served well over 30 million customers,” said Gregg Oerther. “Rebuilding this location has been a dream of my father’s for many years. In partnership with McDonald’s, with perseverance, passion and commitment, we come together to represent the brand and move forward.”
