Orange County Fire Rescue Invites Public to Learn Fire Prevention Strategies

Orange County, FL - Every October, firefighters across the nation mark the anniversary of the Great Chicago Fire with an increased focus on preventing fires and teaching people what to do in case of a fire. A week of increased prevention related activities will kick off this Saturday, October 4 with an Open House at Orange County Fire Station 35 from 11 am to 1 pm. Fire Station 35 is located at 7435 Winter Garden Vineland Road in western Orange County.

At the Open House, attendees can meet their neighborhood firefighters, learn tips on how to be safe in their homes and businesses, enjoy lunch provided by Orange County Professional Firefighters and play in the fire engine bounce house.

This year’s Fire Prevention Week theme is: “Working Smoke Alarms Save Lives, Test Yours Every Month!” Firefighters will be visiting schools, day care centers, community festivals and businesses to share this important safety message. Working smoke alarms increase the chances of surviving a house fire by 50% according to the National Fire Protection Association.

If you cannot attend the open house, or any of the other activities throughout the week, take a moment to visit our Emergency & Safety page. There you can find information on how to request firefighters for a safety presentation or to check your home’s smoke alarms.

Media Opportunity: Members of the media are encouraged to join us at the Open House on Saturday, October 4. Fire Safety experts will be available for interviews throughout the week. Contact the on-duty PIO at (407) 836-9890 to coordinate a time.
