Mayor Jacobs to Host 2nd Annual Youth Leadership Conference

Orange County, FL –Mayor Teresa Jacobs will host her 2nd Annual Youth Leadership Conference this Friday at the Orange County Renaissance Senior Center. Nearly 200 students from Orange County public high schools will learn about their local government, why it’s important to them and how they can get involved to solve community issues. The one-day program kicks off at 7:30 a.m. and lasts until 1:00 p.m.

The conference covers topics such as land use and zoning, code enforcement, community service and it engages the teens directly through mock public hearings.  Several key elected officials will join Mayor Jacobs including Supervisor of Elections Bill Cowles, School Board Chairman Bill Sublette, Sheriff Jerry Demings, OCPS Superintendent Dr. Barbara Jenkins; and various county commissioners and school board members as well as Orlando Magic Director of Multicultural Insights and Cause Marketing Lucas Boyce.

The students taking part in the conference were selected by their high school principals.  They will have the opportunity to network with other students from county high schools who also serve in leadership roles.
