Sand Lake Road RCA Study

Project Limits

Orange County is conducting the Sand Lake Road Roadway Conceptual Analysis (RCA) Study. The primary study corridor is on Sand Lake Road from Apopka-Vineland Road to Turkey Lake Road (approximately 1.3 miles). A secondary road, Wallace Road from Apopka Vineland Road to Turkey Lake Road (approximately 1.5 miles), will also be evaluated for conceptual improvements.

Purpose

The RCA will evaluate the operational capacity of the existing four lane (4) sections of Sand Lake Road from Apopka-Vineland Road to Turkey Lake Road, assess current and future travel demand in the area and identify operational enhancements to reduce congestion and improve travel times and safety while people and vehicles move along the corridor. The study will also include design traffic projections and an operational analysis of Wallace Road, which is a parallel facility, and identify conceptual improvement recommendations within the existing right-of-way.

Public Involvement

Stakeholder and general public input will play a key role in guiding the development of the Study recommendations. As such, the County will host two community meetings at key milestones of the Study. These meetings will be publicly posted at least two weeks prior to the meeting date. Additionally, the County has formed the Sand Lake Road Study – Study Advisory Group (SAG). The SAG includes representatives from local neighborhoods, businesses, civic/advocacy groups and agencies. SAG meetings are open to the general public, and meeting information will be posted on the County Calendar and County Bulletin at least two weeks prior to the meeting.

The Public is invited to attend a community meeting to review potential alternatives that are under consideration. The meeting is scheduled for Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Dr. Phillips High School Cafeteria, located at 6500 Turkey Lake Road, Orlando, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The meeting will begin with an open house at 6:00 p.m.
