Every 10 years the Florida Constitution and the Orange County Charter calls for a reconfiguration of political boundaries. 2011 was one of those years.
Every 10 years the Florida Constitution along with the Orange County Charter calls for reconfiguring of the political boundaries for Commission districts. The Board of County Commissioners is put in charge of this task, and in this case appointed a 15 Member Redistricting Advisory Committee to make recommendations.
The Redistricting Advisory Committee held 18 meetings, 6 of which were public hearings out in the community and considered a total of 29 maps. The committee submitted two proposed maps to the Board, a Committee Proposal labeled 12 B and a Public Proposal E.
After careful consideration the Board of County Commissioners selected a modified version of the Committee-proposed 12 B map. This map was coined M-3 and will be effective for elections in 2012, but the new district boundaries will not actually take effect until December 4th, 2012.
