The Orange County Utilities Cross Connection Control Program ensures the quality and safety of the county’s drinking water supply. A key component is the use of backflow preventers.

Effective March 1, 2020, Orange County Utilities will install potable water meter boxes with dual check valves in:

• Residential areas irrigating with reclaimed water
• Residential areas with reclaimed water irrigation infrastructure in place that are connected to the potable water system through an interconnect

Beginning March 1, 2020, developers and contractors will no longer be required to install dual check backflow devices in the above areas.
