Mitigation

The Mitigation Program complements all disaster relief programs and proposed housing and infrastructure activities in the CDBG-DR action plan and will focus on strengthening existing housing and public infrastructure, flood diversion and prevention of damage and loss of property, and to ensure that the County is better equipped to face disaster-type events in the future and to provide long-term sustainability for Orange County residents and neighborhoods.

Orange County Public Works Verona Park Subdivision & Pump Station Improvement The project will mitigate flooding in the Verona Park Subdivision and nearby areas by reshaping the Azalea Park Canal, adding two overflow weirs, and installing new stormwater infrastructure along Toledo Street. It also includes a trash skimmer for water quality and a tripling of pump capacity to further reduce flood risk. $3,660,966
City of Ocoee Roper Parkway & Capital Court Drainage Improvement Project This project will enhance flood resiliency in the western Lake Lotta Basin by upgrading culverts to improve stormwater flow. By eliminating two bottlenecks in the storm sewer system, it will reduce upstream flooding and mitigate overall flood risk. $486,627 [Download]
City of Orlando Orlando Flood Mitigation through Drain Well Replacements The project involves replacing 13 nonfunctional drainage wells in low-to-moderate income areas and adding baffle boxes where feasible to enhance water quality. These improvements will help manage lake levels, reduce roadway flooding during storms, and improve stormwater control in landlocked basins. $15,750,000 [Download]
Town of Eatonville Eatonville Resilience & Recovery This project will mitigate severe flooding from Lake King on the Catalina subdivision by creating overflow storage, implementing green stormwater infrastructure and upgrading the outfall system. $8,291,743 [Download]
