Orange County Director of Community and Environmental Services, Melvin Pittman, began his career with Orange County in 1976 as an intern in the Planning Department under a federally funded program to create a land use survey. The survey was the basis for Orange County’s first Growth Management Plan. Pittman soon became a permanent employee and through the years worked in various positions in the Planning Department, eventually moving to Community and Environmental Services. He has earned numerous awards including the first County Chairman’s Employee Award for Outstanding Performance in 1992 and he was recently named the recipient of the Community Action 2012 Distinguished Service Award.
The Information Systems and Services Division (ISS) is recognized on the Wall of Fame for their superior design and project implementation in the redesign of Orange County’s website. In April 2012, the team launched the redesign of OCFL.net as part of an initiative to provide a more effective and productive website for citizens, to better engage with their government. Shortly after, ISS won 1st place in the County Portal Category at the Center for Digital Government’s Nationwide Best of the Web Awards for the website’s innovation, functionality and efficiency. Previously, ISS took 3rd place in the 2005 Best of the Web Awards and has placed in the top 10 for the Digital Counties Survey since 2003.
Orange County Environmental Protection Deputy Director, Lori Cunniff, began her career with Orange County in 2002. Her commitment to excellence has earned numerous awards including the 2012 Kramer Award, the 2009 BOMA Public Official of the Year Award, the local Governments for Sustainability Milestone Achievement Award, Central Florida Clean Air Award, WasteWise Local Government Partner of the Year Award, Excellence in Energy Star Promotion Award, and the North American Hazardous Materials Management Association National Program Excellence Award.
Ms. Cunniff has served on the boards of several organizations including Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge, Florida Green Building coalition, Academy of Board Certified Environmental Professionals and Florida Local Environmental Resources Agencies.
Former General Manager of the Orange County Convention Center, Jessie Allen, began his career with Orange County in 1977. After expanding a nationally recognized community development program, he advanced to lead Orange County’s Community Service and Administrative Support Departments for seven years. He was then selected as General Manager of the Orange County Convention Center. Mr. Allen has received many awards including the 2012 Black Men’s Health and Wellness Expo “Rosa Parks Service Award” and the 2011 Black Meetings and Tourism APEX Award. He was also greatly involved in YMCA Achievers and is a member of 100 Black Men of Orlando.
