Orange County’s natural resources include several areas of special concern which contain unique and irreplaceable features, functions and biodiversity. The sensitivity of these ‘Special Protection Areas’ (SPAs) warrants additional protective measures to help insure their long-term viability. Areas and features that have already been afforded these protections include the Econlockhatchee River, Wekiva River, and the Environmental Lands Stewardship Program area.
In 2024, new SPAs are being proposed for the Shingle Creek and St. Johns River Basins. Learn more and be part of the discussion as the new policies for these sensitive resource areas are being formulated.
