FREE Fort Christmas Barnyard Banter: From Sheep Shear to my Wool Sweater, May 17

  • All ages are welcome to join in the Barnyard Banter program at Fort Christmas Historical Park on Saturday, May 17, from 1-2 p.m.! This month’s free event: From Sheep Shear to my Wool Sweater, a discussion on the historic use of sheep for wool to make clothing. Visit Fort Christmas Historical Park for more information. Silverleaf Park Community Meeting #2, May 21
  • The Orange County Parks and Recreation Division and District 1 Commissioner Nicole Wilson invite you to attend the second in-person community meeting for the five-acre Silverleaf Park on Wednesday, May 21, 6-7 p.m., at Hamlin Middle School, 16025 Silver Grove Blvd., Winter Garden. FREE Monthly Senior Fish4Fun Event at Renaissance Senior Center!
  • Orange County Parks & Recreation and the Florida Fish & Wildlife Commission join together to bring you Senior Fish4Fun for ages 55 and older at Renaissance Senior Center, 3800 S. Econlockhatchee Trail, Orlando. This is a once-a-month free catch-n-release fishing event! Fishing poles and bait provided while supplies last, or participants can bring their own fresh-water fishing gear. Questions? Call Renaissance Senior Center 407-254-9070 or email parks@ocfl.net.

    Memorial Day Salute for Veterans, May 24
    • Enjoy this Memorial Day Salute, honoring all Veterans, presented by Friends of Cypress Grove Park and SouthState Bank! This is a free event on Saturday, May 24, from 9:45-11:30 a.m. at Orange County Parks and Recreation's Cypress Grove Park, 290 Holden Ave., Orlando. Bring chairs, blankets and a picnic. Here's line up of activities:
      • 9:45 a.m. Prelude with 10-11:30 a.m. Program
        • Meaning and Folding of the American Flag
        • VFW Post 2093 Community Band
        • Veterans Pinning Ceremony
        • POW/MIA Presentation
        • Patriotic Guest Speaker

    West Orange trail Bridge Grand Re-opening, May 31
    • Orange County Mayor Jerry L. Demings and District 2 Commissioner Christine Moore invite you to the West Orange Trail Bridge Grand Re-opening on Saturday, May 31, at 9:30 a.m. in Apopka (U.S. 441/Orange Blossom Trail at South Forest Avenue). The event celebrates the nearly 20-year-old bridge that is part of the 30-year-old West Orange Trail. The FREE activities include:
      • 9:30 a.m. Registration of guests
      • 10 a.m. Mayor Demings and Commissioner Moore host the re-opening ceremony
      • 10:30 a.m. A fun run, walk and bike ride, led by the Apopka Run Club, will head south for one mile from the bridge’s southern entrance, then return to the bridge to accept a medal for participating. Other activities taking place under bridge include a workout with Core Body FX trainer Frankie Long, student artwork of the bridge created by kids in conjunction with Creative Hub owner Melanie Jankun, and networking with Main Street Apopka. Snacks provided by Sprouts Farmers Market.
