Sustainability and Mobility

Whether we walk, bike, ride or fly, having safe, efficient and reliable avenues to reach our destinations is critical for a sustainable Orange County. A successful mobility strategy is important for maintaining economic vitality, ensuring quality of life for residents and visitors, and having a positive long-term effect on our local environment.

Goal 10: People Have Multiple Transportation Options

1. Enhance access to premium transit and further enhance existing services (such as SunRail and express bus) Long Incorporated the requirement for bicycle and pedestrian facilities into all corridor study scopes of service. A technology assessment was completed to select a standard alternative fuel vehicle to be acquired by LYNX as part of the agency’s Paratransit fleet update.
2. Enhance connectivity throughout the region for all modes of transportation Long Conducting a Transit Feasibility and Technology Assessment to provide premium transit service to the I-Drive and Universal Blvd area as part of the I-Drive Visioning and I-Drive Overlay Zone adopted by the BCC. Coordinating with Metroplan and Brightline to establish rail access to the Orlando International Airport and west via the Sunrail Meadowoods Station. Completing the design phase for transit lanes in the I-Drive/Universal Blvd area.
3. Complete streets that are interconnected and that connect to regional activity centers Long This strategy is incorporated into the Complete Streets Policy and Manual addressed in Goal #12, Strategy #1.
