Growing a Sustainable Future with
UF/IFAS Extension Orange County
At UF/IFAS Extension Orange County, we’re all about helping our community grow—literally and sustainably! Through education, hands-on programs, and local partnerships, we empower residents to make environmentally friendly choices in gardening, landscaping, nutrition, and beyond.
Urban Agriculture & Community Gardens
Want to grow your own food, even in the city? We teach people how to garden sustainably, whether it’s in their backyard, on a balcony, or in a community garden. Our programs cover hydroponics, composting, and smart watering techniques-helping you grow fresh, healthy food while conserving resources.
Sustainable Landscaping & Water Conservation
Florida’s natural beauty thrives when we take care of it! Our Florida-Friendly Landscaping™ (FFL) program teaches homeowners, businesses, and HOAs how to create low-maintenance, water-efficient landscapes using native plants, responsible fertilization, and smart irrigation. The result? Less water use, healthier soil, and a vibrant outdoor space that benefits Florida’s ecosystem.
Healthy Food, Healthy Living or Food Systems & Nutrition Education
Nutritious food choices lead to healthier lives. Through programs like our Diabetes Prevention Program and Family Nutrition Program, we help people make nutritious choices, reduce food waste, and even support local farmers’ markets for fresh, local produce.
Energy & Waste Reduction
Sustainability starts at home! From composting workshops to waste audits, we offer practical tips to help households reduce waste and improve energy efficiency. We also work with Orange County Utilities to help residents be more eco-friendly every day.
Inspiring the Next Generation
The next generation holds the key to a sustainable future. Through 4-H and school-based programs, we engage young minds in hands-on learning about conservation, agriculture, and environmental stewardship —fostering lifelong habits that protect our planet.
Sustainable Farming & Natural Resource Conservation
We work closely with local farmers to promote environmentally responsible agriculture. By encouraging practices like integrated pest management, soil conservation, and water-efficient irrigation, we help farmers grow food in a way that protects our natural resources. Whether you’re a backyard grower or a commercial producer, we offer training and resources to help you farm responsibly.
Master Gardener Volunteers: Growing Knowledge, Growing Community
Our Master Gardener Volunteers are passionate about plants and sustainability! These trained experts dedicate thousands of hours each year to community gardens, urban forestry, and public education. They’re here to answer your gardening questions and help make sustainable gardening a reality for everyone.
At UF/IFAS Extension Orange County, we believe small actions can lead to big changes. Join us in making our community greener, healthier, and more sustainable!
